Indication
Salmeterol is used to treat conditions characterised by a narrowing of the airways, like asthma, emphysema and chronic bronchitis.
Serevent contains the active ingredient salmeterol, which is a long-acting beta 2 agonist. The medicine is administered directly to the lungs, using an inhaler, where it can get to work to alleviate the symptoms of asthma.
Salmeterol causes the muscles in the airways to relax, allowing them to open up and for air to pass in and out with ease.

Salmeterol is a preventer inhaler and as such it cannot relieve an acute asthma attack. It is important to carry your reliever inhaler with you at all times, so you can use it in case of an emergency.
